-Abstract
Recent research explores the use of technology, linguistic analysis, and innovative techniques to enhance English language learning. Studies investigate machine translation for vocabulary and reading gains, finding benefits but also risks like cognitive overload (Abimbola). Ethnographic methods elucidate cultural meanings in indigenous traditions, furthering anthropological understanding (Suparni et al.). Analyses of pronunciation errors reveal students’ over-reliance on first language knowledge when learning to pronounce English words (Putra). Naming practices of youth gangs demonstrate linguistic resistance through integrating local terms and acronyms (Syamsuddin & Romadon). Singing songs significantly improves vocabulary, pronunciation, and translation skills of English learners (Orun). Collectively, these diverse methodologies and domains demonstrate the multifaceted nature of English language acquisition research. Key themes include leveraging technology, respecting cultural contexts, analyzing learner errors systematically, and using innovative activities like singing. Further longitudinal, mixed methods, and cross-cultural research could continue advancing the field.
